Deep within the enchanting rolling hills, resided a young shepherd. His life was untarnished, simple, and honest. His only responsibility was mainly to care for his flock of ewes.

Their gentle baas and the rustling of the wind among the lone tree on the peak were his constant associates. Day upon day, guarding his responsibilities instilled in him a sense of quiet fulfillment.

However, there were at times moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would yearn for companionship. In one such instance because of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy orchestrated a mischievous plot.

Stories of wild beasts preying on sheep had been heard times and again in the village. So, the boy decided to leveraged this fear and played a prank on the townsfolk.

One afternoon he dashed into the village shouting “Wolf! A check here wolf is attacking my sheep!” The terrified villagers sprinted up the hills to help but found nothing threatening.

The boy laughed at the puzzle on their faces. This game laughed for a couple of more days. Yet, one noon, a real wolf did come to prey the herd. The shepherd boy raced for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his flock. Devastated, he returned to the town only to be met with a lesson on honesty and the repercussions of crying wolf.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once broken, is difficult to earn back. It's a story as pertinent today as it was then.
